Success in a business is all about people with whom we are working. Guiding our teams well in the right direction is the primary responsibility of a leader. However, only many leaders across the spectrum of society have enough commitment to guide their teams and majority of the leaders show the 4 defects in their style of leadership. The purpose of this blog is to build an awareness of the traps on our leadership style that can derail a business strategy.
Not defining the business roadmap, strategic priorities and execution plan
A lot of leaders just share the idea and expect people to understand and deliver. Remember, the leader is not just a dreamer of an idea, he needs to be an architect of the dream. The other option is if the leader himself does not have an idea on how to execute his/her won dream, then this can be compensated by hiring the architects who can execute the dream.
Not identifying the pseudo performers
The pseudo- performers are the people who “project” their competence but are far less capable than what they think they are. Pseudo-performers hijack the attention of the top management on non-issues and are far from the traits that are needed to build success. One needs to identify such elements across the layers of the organization and address the issue in a form manner
Poor Communication and Procrastination
Not communicating enough or Ineffective communication can lead to misunderstandings, lack of clarity, and misalignment among team members regarding goals and expectations, hindering strategy execution. Many leaders think that talking to the team is enough, however they don’t close the loop by seeking an understanding from people on their readiness to execute the plans that have been communicated. Many a leaders have the habit of delaying certain simple pieces of communication that lead eventually to the derailment of the objectives
Inflexibility and Resistance to Change:
While we expect others to change it’s important for the leaders to be change agents themselves. Leaders who are unwilling to adapt to new information or changing circumstances can stifle innovation and responsiveness, making it difficult to pivot when necessary
Failure to Empower and Delegate:
We have no choice, we have to delegate to make things happen. Leaders who are over protective and who do not trust their team members or fail to delegate appropriately prevent others from taking ownership of their roles, resulting in bottlenecks and decreased productivity.
While it’s important to recognise our pitfalls , it is important to build self-awareness and constantly build the capabilities of the team. Please visit our webpage – https://kabirlearning.in/
Questions for reflections :
- Do we really empower people effectively to make progress on our business purpose and mission?
- Are we flexible to accommodate different points of view to reduce the chances of error in our leadership decisions?
